Lempäälän Lämpö Oy improved reporting, budgeting and forecasting with Finadeck
Energy

Lempäälän Lämpö Oy is an energy company operating in Lempäälä, responsible for district heating and cooling production and distribution as well as gas distribution in the area. The company has several regional district heating networks with a total of 14 production facilities. The total energy delivered to customers (district heating, cooling, and gas) is approximately 100 GWh annually. The company also uses the LEMENE energy system, which produces district heating energy and electricity through combined heat and power (CHP) and solar power. Industrial-scale batteries in the energy system balance electricity grid consumption and production and enable participation in electricity reserve markets.
Lempäälän Lämpö Oy employs 14 people in Finland and had a turnover of approximately €11.8 million in 2024. The company's vision is to be a pioneer in sustainable energy solutions, in customers' everyday lives for the benefit of the Lempäälä region. The company aims to operate cost-effectively, reliably, and simultaneously develop financial management to meet today's requirements. To support this, Lempäälän Lämpö implemented Finadeck's software tools for reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and group accounting.
Transparent and up-to-date reporting
Before Finadeck's implementation, financial and operational reporting was fragmented and manual. With Finadeck, Lempäälän Lämpö's management gained access to an easy-to-use reporting software where financial figures and key operational business metrics, such as megawatt hours of district heating produced, gas consumption in megawatt hours, and electricity and district heating sold in megawatt hours, are all in one view. These operational metrics can also be utilized in budgets and forecasts in Finadeck.
Automation of reporting streamlined financial management processes and brought more transparency to decision-making.

Budgeting and forecasts supporting decisions
Budgeting and forecast updates were previously manual and Excel-based. With Finadeck, Lempäälän Lämpö adopted a modern budgeting and forecasting software, enabling quick creation and easy comparison of different scenarios and forecasts.
The budgeting process shortened considerably, and forecasts are now directly linked to reporting. This enables quick response when deviations are detected and improves the company's ability to plan for the future.
Fixed asset management was also improved when existing fixed assets were entered into Finadeck, making all necessary information about existing fixed assets available to everyone. Additionally, the impact of investments on profitability can be clearly examined with Finadeck.
Fixed asset budgeting: planning for investments
For Lempäälän Lämpö Oy, investments in networks, production facilities, and other fixed assets are a significant part of operations. Finadeck offers the ability to budget and monitor these investments clearly separated but as part of the overall budget. Fixed asset acquisitions, depreciation, and effects on cash flow and profit can be easily modeled and updated.
Fixed asset accounting can also be automated, as Finadeck automatically generates depreciation vouchers from the fixed assets listed in Finadeck to the accounting system.
With Finadeck, we can compare the effects of investments over a multi-year time span. This supports long-term decision-making and helps manage risks better.

Loan management and financing planning, predictability and transparency
For an energy sector operator, the financing structure, existing loans, and new financing needs are key planning areas. With Finadeck, Lempäälän Lämpö can model interest costs, repayment schedules, and financing structures for existing and potential new loans. This makes forecasts and cash flow calculations realistic and transparent, supporting overall financial management.
Additionally, Finadeck enables evaluation of different scenarios, such as interest rate changes or investment timing.
Group accounting before merger
Until the turn of 2024–2025, Lempäälän Lämpö Oy formed a group together with Lempäälän Energia Oy. Finadeck's role was central in group-level financial management: it served as a flexible and modern group accounting software that enabled combining subsidiary figures as part of the whole.
Group accounting was largely automated, reducing manual work and providing confidence in the accuracy of figures. Management could view both individual company and entire group development in real-time.
Data continuity after merger
At the beginning of 2025, Lempäälän Energia Oy merged with Lempäälän Lämpö Oy. One of the most important goals was to ensure that data accumulated from group periods remains available. Thanks to Finadeck, this succeeded: the system still offers the ability to compare how the development of the group and its cost centers appeared before the merger, and how the figures develop under one company after the merger.
This data continuity has been crucial in strategic decision-making, as it enables long-term development monitoring and helps management make better-informed decisions.

Going forward, we will use Finadeck even more comprehensively, in automated reporting, budget scenario and forecast preparation, and overall financial picture management.
